"I spend a lot of time thinking about these things, " I admit with a laugh. "Philosophy, ethics... two of those oft underused studies of thought. Throw in an unhealthy dose of religion in there, and you've got oodles of different angles to mull over your self-loathing and moral crises from."

"I don't know that I'd make a hobby out of it," I grin, "but I'm glad you seem to have done just that."

I stretch a bit before glancing around in hopes of spotting a clock, idly wondering the time as I try to rock forward to get out of the deep-seated chair.

"Shall we move on to the rest of the house, then?"

"Yeah, sure," I smile as I get up, the absolutely elevated height of my chair making it far easier for me to get up and offer a hand to Ljuba to help her rise from her own seat. "The foyer over here will lead up into the entry. The library and main living room are right there, plus another guest bedroom."

"Another?" I repeat, looking around as I follow him up the stairs - taking one last look at the basement in a touch of confusion. "Did we pass a first one or something?"

"No, it's right here," I laugh as I nod to the room to the right of the stairs. "It's just being used as storage at the moment, though. Mostly gym equipment and half finished projects. I think my old crib might be in there somewhere, too."

I grin as I nod, looking over at it before we make our way up stairs.

"Of course, right. You said that."

"Did I?" I ask, trying to think back on whether I had or not. I don't remember mentioning the room yet, but I brush it off as the wine and shrug. "Ah, well... I don't go in there much unless I've lost something. Hilda tends to put everything that sits too long in there. Less of an eyesore that way, I guess."

"Everyone needs a good junk room," I agree, tucking my boots under my arm as we make our way into the foyer - a room I recognize.

"Okay, so... This is where I came in, right?" I ask, stepping out past him a bit before glancing back at the door. "Yes, there. So, the kitchen is that way and we ate back there somewhere... What else do you have on this floor?"

384 Re: This is a Title. on Sun Nov 13, 2016 11:52 pm

"The library, gues room, and the living room," I smile as I nod to the right. "The manual for your collar is in there. I was putting the finishing touches on it when-," I catch myself before backtracking slightly. "When I went out for a smoke and you were there.

"There's also a dining room over there, but what you can see from here is about all there is to it," I add offhandedly. "It's a room... for dining. Not nearly as cozy as the library."

385 Re: This is a Title. on Sun Nov 13, 2016 11:54 pm

"So, would you like to show me the library?" I laugh a bit as he seems to lean towards that particular room, "Or do you have some sort of grudge against the dining room you don't want to talk about?"

"It's boring," I whisper accusingly, casting a side eye toward the offending room before smirking at Ljuba and waving her off toward the library. "I just don't want to forget your book. If I leave it sitting in here, I'll tinker with it until it's illegible."

"Well, let's finish the tour, and I can grab it on my way out." I suggest, "It's getting a bit late, anyway."

"Fine, fine," I sigh as I gesture for her to follow me back toward the front door so we can go up the stairs. "I like it up here, anyway. It's a lot of open walkways. I used to hide on the ledges up here and listen to what people were talking about down below. You can hear everything, know where everyone is on the floor below just from the reverberations on the walls and ceilings.

"This middle room over here was mine," I say as I nod toward the room across from the master suite. "And the corner room back here was Richard's. He got all the windows - said they were ideal for sneaking out. I'd have been jealous, but I never had to share my bathroom when we had guests.

"Now I have the master suite," I say after we've paused to look in on my old bedroom. It was almost barren compared to the rest of the house. It took me a long time to really master my senses, for me to be able to navigate through anything but the sparsest of furnishings. Now I have no trouble picking my way through the plush leather furnishings adorning the sitting room that leads into the master suite, not even the rug or the crate-like coffee table tripping me up as I make note of the smell of melted wax to guide me away from the table's sharp corners.

"Does that mean I should be calling you Master..." I trail off a bit, realizing I don't know his last name. "Marn..?

"Doesn't really have a ring to it, does it..?" I sigh, busying myself with looking around the lush bedroom with a touch of envy. Every ounce of furniture in the house looks more comfortable than anything in my apartment, even the carpets seem more inviting than my bed. "Your home is... Wow, honestly. It's gorgeous."

"Thanks," I reply, a small but pleased smile touching my lips as I pause next to the fireplace to step on the foot pedal near the grille. The crackle of flame kicks up as the wood inside catches, casting a warmth through the room as we pass into the master suite.

"It's Mercer, by the way," I add as I glance back toward her. "Master Marnin Matthew Mercer... because why not go overboard with the alliteration."

"I knew that, didn't I?" I frown slightly before laughing, following him into the bedroom as I reach out, letting my fingers drag across the brick work above the fireplace as he leads the way.

"Sorry, I can get a touch confused sometimes." I confess, glancing towards him as I head over to a shelf settled near the windows in what looks to be a long-gone-unused reading nook. I look over a collection of old photos curiously, reaching up to touch one of the frames so I can shift it into the light better.

"Don't take it personally, but you'll probably tell me your last name a dozen more times." I laugh, stepping away from the pictures as I bounce on my heels a bit sheepishly. "I should probably confess I only remember your first name because I made a point to write it down after the first time I stopped in your shop. It's tacked to one of my cabinets. Marnin - Mask Tech. Complete with your shops address and a little map."

392 Re: This is a Title. on Mon Nov 14, 2016 12:34 am

"You don't have to explain yourself to me," I laugh even as I nod in understanding. "I'd lose my head if it weren't attached. I get so swept away with my projects sometimes, I have to keep lists of things that I have to do before I can leave the house or the shop. Things like turning off the lights or putting on socks. I'm one bad hair day away from being a stereotype."

I grin at his understanding, tentatively taking a seat on one of the arms of the chair nearby as I look around.

"Well, pobody's nerfect, right?" I laugh lamely to myself.

"Yeah," I laugh, "You know, like... I'm so scattered, I can't even say that right."

I blush a bit at the stupidness of it, a leg swinging comfortably in his direction as I shrug off the lame remark. "So do you have any fun tech built into the house?" I ask, "I've seen automatic fireplaces before, I mean something you."

396 Re: This is a Title. on Mon Nov 14, 2016 1:00 am

"Well..." I respond a bit evasively as I sink onto the bed and scratch the back of my neck. "I mean... I built a dog once, when I was a kid. I really wanted one, but my parents sad no, so I made one... it literally just drove around in a circle, barked, and peed on the rug.

"But yeah, there are a few things," I admit after a moment. "Some of the funner stuff is hard to explain, but one of the things I'm sort of proud of is the Echo. It's just this little gong handle that activates in the basement sporadically throughout the day, or when I push the button for it. It strikes a big copper pipe down there and sends this vibration up through the piping in the entire house. It's such a low frequency, most people don't even notice it, but I can feel it in my bones every time it goes off.

"It's a neat feeling, but it also has a purpose," I smile a bit. "Not that anyone believes it, but it helps me 'see' things in the house. Sort of like the echo location of a bat or one of those sea animals."

Sighing, I drop my boots at my feet before rising from the chair and walking over towards the side of the bed, resting against the high side as I lean over and press a hand against the headboard.

"So, what? I'm going to see like a bat or something?" I chide, watching him expectantly.

"Well, what good what that do me?" I scoff as I reach over to the nightstand to hit the alarm button tucked under the lip. "Close your eyes," I instruct as I press the button and lie back before going still. I don't need to put my hand against the wall to feel the reverberation that follows, the hum in the wall transferring to the bed and into my core as I feel it echo and bounced off every surface in the room, dancing around in the space between the walls, and down to the shifting earth around the foundation three floors below us.

"Could you see anything?" I ask, unable to contain the note of hopefulness in my voice as the vibration slowly dies and I tilt my head up to look toward her.
