I frown a bit at the look on his face, pulling my hand from the wall as I use it to rest comfortably against the bed.

"No," I say softly, "but my arm tickles a bit."

"Ugh," I groan, rolling my eyes as I throw my arms across my face. "That's exactly what Richard said."

"Well, to be fair," I follow up a bit more earnestly, crawling onto the bed to sit perched on the edge, "You've been doing this forever, and I've only been half blind for like... two years, tops."

I nod at him seriously as I reach up to touch the headboard again. "I just don't know what I'm feeling for, but you could explain it, right?"

"Probably," I admit as I kick at the nightstand, the faulty rattle setting off the Echo again as I hum deep in my chest while it vibrates through the headboard again. "But it's sort of hard to explain? You don't so much feel the vibration as you much as you listen for it after it fills the room... you have to hear the voids and the dark spots in the room, listen for where the sound doesn't reach.

"Like I can tell you moved the chair a few inches when you got up, and your toe caught the edge of the rug while you were walking and it curled the corner up," I offer with a faint frown as I tilt my head to listen. "And that you're wearing a long skirt and a button up with sleeves that fluff out a bit under your sweater. The sound doesn't quite reach your skin because of those things. It sort of bends and crackles a bit, trying to get through the fabric."

I let that sit in silence for a moment before I let out a laugh as I shake my head and run my fingers through my hair. "Either that or I'm drunk and making things up to sound more interesting."

"Either you're not really blind," I start, any real hint of joking absent as I look at him, "or that is incredibly lucky to be made up." I scoff, stretching my neck up to look over at the chair where my boots sit, dents in the carpet where it used to sit a few inches closer.

"I'm not going to lie to you, Marnin," I continue, a smirk on my lips again and I begin to laugh, "I'm a little pissed. A little pissed and a bit jealous. I'm only half blind, but you're whole blind and you still manage to see better than me. It's not really fair, is it?"

"It's my solidarity victory," I laugh as I pat the wall fondly. "You have no idea how many bruises and stitches and broken bones I got running into things and falling as I tried to find my way around before figuring out that there were other ways of seeing the world. And it's quite a bit harder to pull off outside the familiarity of my home. I know every dimple in the brickwork here. Set me loose somewhere I've never been, and... well, I'll be honest, I kind of have nightmares about that. I've been lost before, and it's not fun when you can't see."

"No," I laugh weakly, "It's not fun when you can, so I can't imagine it's any better without that ability."

I twist a bit to stretch my legs towards the foot of the bed, shimmying back to rest against the headboard as I close my eyes - imagining his ability to see without seeing - before glancing his way subtly.

"You seem to have adjusted well, though. It suits you. Makes you less intimidating."

"Oh?" I laugh as I pull a pillow up so I can turn on my side to face her, my hand tucking under my cheek. "I would be more intimidating if I wasn't so well adapted?" I ask curiously. "Is that because my difference would be more obvious? Because it would take more effort to communicate?"

"No, I meant-" I laugh awkwardly, shaking my head. "Being blind suits you... You're sort of handsome bloke, and you're quite good at what you do, on top of that.

"If you want to talk about the effort needed to communicate being too much to handle, I am not the person. I carried around a glorified type writer for the last two years. No, no. You're not different to me. Not like you'd think, anyway."

My ears grow hot as she speaks, a ridiculous grin spreading across my cheeks as I find myself unable to contain to absurd noise that comes out of me. It's either laughter or embarrassment, I don't know, but I'm quick to roll further onto my side to hide my face in my pillow.

"Hey- no!" I laugh loudly, leaning over to grab at his arm as I try to pull him back up, "I only said sort of handsome! I was just being nice, really, stop laughing!"

"No, no!" I squeak into the pillow as I continue laughing with pleasure. "Don't ruin it, let me bask for a moment! You called me handsome and talented!"

I grin as I twist back to rest against the headboard, a hand over my face as I giggle.

"Only sort of," I repeat teasingly, "And I'm a witch, so really my judgement on your merit as a tech is negligible."

"I'm putting this in my advertisement!" I grin broadly as I roll onto my back to wave a hand across an invisible headline. "Marn's Musical Managerie: Good Enough for a Witch."

"Your shop'll be boycotted within the week." I laugh back at him, reaching over to swat at his arm as it sways past me.

"But at least I'll be handsome," I shoot back with another gleeful giggle as I catch the hand that tries to swat me, my fingers squeezing hers without thinking.

There's a jolt of nerves as his fingers catch mine, and my laugh falters just a bit before continuing sheepishly. I let my hand relax against his, them both falling to the bed where they rest as a silence falls over the room. His hands are calloused and rough, but warm as my nails drag gingerly down the lines between his fingers.

"It really is getting late," I say a bit reluctantly, sighing heavily as I watch our hands. "I should probably grab that book and go."

"You could stay," I say softly after lying there quietly for a moment, my thumb tracing the edge of her palm gently as I relish the tickle of her nails on my skin. "If you prefer, I mean," I add quietly, trying not to sound too suggestive or hopeful in my offer. "It is getting dark out."

"Which is really why I should go," I press a bit more firmly, squeezing his fingers before pulling my hand from his. I slip off of the edge of the bed, walking quietly towards the chair so I can scoop up my boots. I can't put my finger on why, but being alone with him - in his bedroom - leaves me feeling anxious.

I've passed the fireplace before he's even risen, lingering near the door to the hall as I wait for him to catch up.

"I don't want to forget that book!" I say lamely, smiling as I see him make his way into the sitting room as I lead the way into the hall.

"I didn't overstep myself, did I?" I ask after a moment, smiling faintly at her lame attempt at conversation. "I don't want you to think I expect, you know... that . Or anything like that. I just felt like we were having a good time?"

"We were, we were!" I ramble in response, heading down the hall towards the stairs, "It's not that at all, it's-

"Dinner was lovely, and I'd love to do this again sometime." I say more calmly, glancing back at him as we make our way down stairs. "But I need to go home tonight."

"Alright, that's fine," I say, feeling a little more at ease hearing that she might like to come back again. "I just wanted to make sure, you know? And you're not obligated to come back! I just..." I can feel my cheeks growing hot as I shake my head quickly. "Let's get your book, shall we? I think maybe the wine has gone to my head a bit."

I laugh softly as I hit the bottom of the stairs, stepping off to the side as my feet hit the cold marble.

"It's in the library, right?" I ask, pointing absently in its direction as I wait for him to step in ahead of me. "Will you grab it? I need to put my shoes back on."

"Sure," I nod as I step in ahead of her, the small step into the library bringing with it a shift in the entire atmosphere as the smell of wood and leather and books fills my nostrils. The room is also colder, the door to the loggia still sitting open as the sound of crickets and birds filter in from outside.

"Would you like an escort home?" I ask as I grab the book from the desk, my voice barely rising in volume as I assume she can hear me.

Sitting against the stairs, I'm not entirely sure what I've heard him say as I tug on my second boot, adjusting the laces quickly as I get up and step into the edge of the library. It smells like Marnin in here.

"Hmm," I start curiously, shaking my head a bit quickly before smiling. "I'm not going to make you walk me home, Marn. I'm mostly certain I can find it."
