"Of course," I nod, stepping to the side to allow her to pass as I finish buttoning my shirt. I can't help but smile to myself as she hurries down the stairs, my fingers working to fix my collar now as I head into the dressing room to finish getting dressed.

I let out a relieved sigh once I hit the stairs, hurrying down into the kitchen to grab my drink as quickly as I can as to avoid running into the brother. The return trip upstairs is much more casually paced, and I stop a few times to take a sip of tea on the stairs and in the hall so I can wipe at my face without The Blind Wonderboy picking up on it.

When I get back to the sitting room, I'm a little surprised to find it empty, but I can hear the rustle of water running just through the bedroom and realize he's disappeared to finish getting ready. With the threat of finding him shirtless passed, I return to my chair and draw the books back into my lap, my tea finding its way to a table as I glance towards the bathroom curiously.

"I got my tea," I say evenly, testing the waters as I lean a touch in my chair to try and see where the bathroom must be. I don't recall him showing me on our last tour, but I can only imagine it's on the wall opposite the fireplace. "And you know, I was wondering something. If pipes clanking can give you an idea of the house, then you can probably hear me pretty clearly right now, hmm?"

I smile at the sound of her voice as I finish brushing my teeth before shutting the water off. Grabbing a hand towel, I pat my face dry and then toss the towel on the counter to grab a comb. Fixing my hair is a little more of a chore that I decide to bring along with me as I make my way back to the sitting room.

"Sorry, did you say something?" I ask as I drag the comb through my hair, my hand patting at it as I do to feel out what I'm doing with it.

"Wasn't me." I shrug up at him, smiling as I grab my tea. "You got a little bit of hair sticking up," I add, gesturing above my own head as though it'd help. "Little sprout in the back."

"Oh," I frown as I pat a hand down on it with little success. Frowning, I pause before holding the comb out toward her. "Would you..?"

I laugh a bit as he hands me the comb, and I nod as I sit forward in my chair.

"Yeah, but you're going to have to come sit down," I say, pushing out of the seat, "I can't see the top of your head."

"What are you, short or something?" I scoff before coming to sit on the floor with a smirk. "Just kidding... I already know you're short."

I tap the comb against my hand as I watch him settle onto the floor, and I can't help but laugh so intensely I wheeze as I look down at him.

"I meant the chair," I say through my laughs, waving a hand at him as I move to take my seat back, "But no, this is fine... You sat on the floor."

"Oh," I say lamely. "You see? This is what happens when I try to make fun of people."

Tapping the comb against his shoulder, I shift in the chair to be behind him as I continue to chuckle contently.

"Shut up and sit back," I say, pulling him against my knees a bit as I try to make sense of the odd tuft of hair that seemingly refuses to stay down. "And for the record - for a man, you're pretty short, too. I'm tall for a woman."

"That would be a problem if I had trouble seeing over crowds," I respond, my eyes fluttering shut as her fingers comb through my hair in an effort to make sense of it.

I wind up dropping the comb into my lap, working at his hair with my fingers as I twist and tuck bits of the rebellious strands into and under their still-wet-companions.

"My little girl's hair used to stand up like this," I say without even realizing, inhaling sharply as my fingers still against his scalp.

"Mmm?" I hum, trying to hide my surprise as though I'm barely paying attention after I hear her pulse pick up significantly at the slip. It's not difficult to pull off given how relaxing the drag of her nails feel on my scalp, but I'm almost certain she can see my chest still as my whole body freezes against her legs. I don't want to scare her off, but...

"Tell me about her?" I ask gently.

Drawing in an unsteady breath, there's no longer any purpose in my fingers as I absently twist and comb his hair, my chest aching as I exhale slowly. I feel like the warmth has been sucked out of the room, as though clouds shifted over the sun and brought on a dreariness to match the turn of subjects out of spite.

"Her name was Beatrice. Bee." I say softly, "But she's gone now, and... Uh, I don't really like to talk about her..."

My lips twist into a frown as I drop a hand down to squeeze her ankle gently. I can't help the way my heart skips at her name - at Bee, the tiny, innocent little insect I styled her collar after completely by coincidence, for no better reason than the smell of flowers I had picked up when I'd first met her.

"So I was thinking maybe you could teach me how to make something to help me sleep?" I offer after letting her fingers twist in my hair absently for another moment, the tone in my voice not even alluding to the topic we had grazed over by mistake. "And maybe something for pain? Nothing too potent or anything, I kind of have an issue with the strong stuff. But something mild would be really useful."

Sniffling a bit, I nod as I let my nails comb through his hair one final time, dragging down his neck lightly before I reach down to hand him his comb and sit back.

"Uhm, yeah, I could do that." I nod, "There was some stuff I used to make before I got in touch with the moppy Poth here, but we can see how that works for you. Tweak it a bit as needed, given mines for nerve damage and the like.

"I actually brought some books," I say as I clear my throat, Marnin shifting a bit from my legs to turn and face me as I grab the books from on top of the bag beside us. "And, I realize how stupid that sounds, given you can't read them, but I couldn't remember all this if I wanted to, so they're kind of for both of us."

"Hold on," I say as a broad grin spreads across my face, my hand bumping into her knee as I reach up to find one of the books in question. "Did you really bring your blind friend a bag full of books?"

"And I got six blocks from my apartment before I realized it, too." I laugh as I push the books towards his hand.

"That," I laugh, taking the book and opening it to run a hand across the seemingly blank paper. "is hilarious."

"A clever ploy," I insist as I pull the book up to eye level, using it as a shield between us as though I could actually read what it says.

"Wow, your books are way better than mine," I comment as I relinquish the book with a teasing face, the teasing betrayed by the sudden shift in my body language as I let her take the book before I hurt it. "Very mysterious."
