"No," I reply quickly, defensively. "I've just... momentarily decided not to brush my hair."

I can't help but smile as I grab a rag from the island to wipe my hands clean so I can reach up to run my fingers through the hair at the base of his neck.

"Your hair's short enough, you're golden," I say, letting my nails drag down his neck before my hands fall to his shoulders so I can rest against him. "Smells good, what're you doing to it?"

"I wash it?" I ask with a laugh, a pleasant shiver going down my spine as her nails drag across the back of my neck. "Nothing special, really. Sometimes I'll put a little bit of product or something in it to keep it tame, but that's about it."

"I was talking about the squash," I say with a broad grin, looking up at him as I squeeze his shoulders and step around him to take the wooden spoon and stir the vegetables absently, "But I am glad to hear you wash your hair."

"Oh," I laugh, flushing more deeply. "We were talking about hair, not food! But, ah, yeah... the bottles are there if you want to have a look at them. Some rosemary, thyme, basil, and a few other things."

"Ah, I love rosemary," I say fondly, setting the spoon aside so I can grab the bottle to open it and sniff of it. "It's got the best smell, I use it in just about everything. I even put it in my lotions and shampoos," I laugh, turning slightly to look up at Marnin as I wave the bottle gentle towards him.

"Yes, I had noticed," I smile as I take the bottle so I can sniff at it myself. "It's a very nice smell - sort of soft."

"It goes really nicely with lavender, and other mints," I respond, capping the bottle and setting it back by the stove in it's proper spot. "Sort of calming, almost like a good leather." I add with a light laugh, "Like you, you sort of smell citrusy but warm, and you smell different on days when you haven't been working. Today, for instance, you sort of smell more earthy.

"I think it's the oils you use on your leathers that are citrusy, but whatever they are, I like the way those smell." I smile, inhaling a bit wistfully at his proximity. There's a brief but pointed silence at the song in the other room ends before picking back up into another track, and I swear I can hear my own heartbeat as I rise onto my toes to kiss him softly.

I return her kiss happily, a small smile coming to my lips as I lean into her and wind an arm around her waist. "Most people never notice those things," I admit after a moment as we settle into a comfortable embrace. "They think it's weird when I do, but I don't think people understand: that's how I see the world. All smells and sounds and tastes... I think it puts people off, like there's something sort of intimate about it."

"It is intimate," I respond, sighing contently as I look up at him. "Not everyone can smell something from across the street, it takes being close to really get it."

"Thank god for the common nose, eh?" I laugh lightly. "Imagine, all that B.O. and all those farts floating around. You'd never be able to blame it on the dog again."

Scoffing, I pull away from him and shake my head as I grab my wine and head to the other side of the kitchen.

"You have a real way with words, you know that?" I laugh, taking a drink of wine.

I laugh heartily at that as I grin and turn back to tend to the food on the stove. "That's a kind way of putting it," I say cheerfully.

"It is, huh?" I grin, finishing off my wine and setting the glass down as I run my hands through my skirt and look around before sighing.

"I'm going to run to the bathroom," I say quickly, "Wine's going right through me."

The rest of the night goes much the same, the conversation and playful teasing giving way eventually to more serious discussion. The conversation becomes so enthralling that it's nearly an hour before I realize that the fish is long past due to come out of the oven - the screeching of the smoke alarms the only thing that reminds me of its existence.

The promise of trying something new at the port is the only thing that manages to calm my disappointment and embarrassment at having managed to fail to produce her an edible dinner after owing her one for so long now. Still, my cheeks feel flush as she pokes fun at me on the walk to the docks - though, if it's her teasing or the gentle bumping of her hip against mine as we walk, I can't really say. All I know is that despite the chilly wind, I feel warm in her presence - content.

"I'm sort of glad we're having to go out for dinner," I admit after a few minutes of peaceful silence. "I was going stir crazy all cooped up in that house."

"Yeah, it's nice to be out." I respond as I squeeze his hand in mind, looking up at him with a smile.

I'm a little jittery as we approach the docks, nothing more than a short line to get through the ramps separating us from the solid ground. The dock attendants hardly cast us a second glance as they hold out a hand to help the passengers over the last wide gap and onto the unusually still ground. It's jarring when I hold onto the attendants arm to step over, the earth feeling oddly solid under my foot as I stumble off the dock, quickly correcting myself as I brush my front off and unfold my cane again.

"Back on solid ground," I comment as I hold out a hand to fish through the air for Ljuba's elbow. "Any specific hankerings while we're down here?"

"Hmm, I don't know," I say, stepping out after him with hardly a thought. The port is quietly bustling around us, though it's less packed than I'd imagined as Marnin's hand catches my arm and pulls my attention back to him.

"Disoriented?" I ask with a slightly teasing tone, guiding him away from the dock so others can file off behind us. I steer us towards what looks to be the main road into the city, though our pace is slow and leisurely as I look around curiously. I've never been to this city before, and it feels much further south than I'm used to. The air is humid and thick, much like Skycrest has felt for days, but here everything smells like it, too. Everyone looks damp, but they're covered in light fabrics and rich colors as they scurry around us.

"A bit," I admit a little sheepishly as I use my cane more to keep people at a distance, their forms veering off course when they notice the wide arc it makes in front of me. "I smell something spicy, though. To the right, maybe three blocks down? I don't know if it's a house or a restaurant, though, but it smells good."

"Well, let's go investigate," I grin as I hug myself a bit closer to his side as we veer off our path towards the right. "Have you have been off the city before, I can't remember? You had, right? Was it here?"

146 Re: Date Night on Sat Jan 21, 2017 12:12 am

"No, no where close to this," I laugh, shaking my head. "I was in Minrathous, the magister's city. Honestly, other than the land sickness, it wasn't much different than Skycrest to me inside the city. Same tall spires and loud, bustling city noise. Culture was shockingly different, though."

"Ah," I laugh softly, "Yeah, Skycrest isn't much like anywhere I've been before. I'm not entirely sure what city this is, though, I can't keep up with where Skycrest is most days."

"I thought I heard someone say Fallowmire?" I shrug at a loss. "I don't know, it's too muggy, whatever it is."

View user profile

149 Re: Date Night on Sat Jan 21, 2017 1:16 pm

"Ah, Fallowmire sounds about right." I say, looking around curiously as the crowd dwindles the further we get from the port's bustling center, "I remember reading up on some of the magics in this area of the world, and how primitive they still are. Bloodied dolls and shrunken appendages, it's kind of disjarring." I remark, thinking offhandedly that this might be the type of city Lavellan would find interest in.

150 Re: Date Night on Sat Jan 21, 2017 2:52 pm

"Yeah, I thought I recognized the name," I nod, my head cocking to the side as I listen more attentively to the sounds of the city's residents. "They found a cult a few miles from here years and years ago. Some necromancer was raising children from the dead and using them to scam the locals or something. When they busted them, the cult had managed to steal enough coin to buy the noble quarter in Skycrest.

"I thought it was interesting because they didn't do it for greed," I admit. "They did it because they had some ritual they wanted to complete that required the sacrifice of the wealth of a nation and its youth to raise some long dead demon king or something. They worked on it for two decades before they were caught - and when they were caught, they poisoned themselves before they could be taken in."
