"We could be as good as dead taking them with us." I respond harshly, my voice barely above a whisper as I turn to pile my bags into the van.

"She can suppress our magic, but not my touch," I respond with a frown as I throw my own bag up between the front seats. "If things go south, we'll kill the kid, too. Better dead than tranquil."

"How noble." I sigh, glancing back as I spot the lithe woman rounding the corner, a bag hung over her shoulder and container of what I assume is her breakfast in hand. Even still she's regal and poised, her head held high as she speaks quietly to the boy trailing alongside her. Tall and thin, it's no wonder Lavellan passes so easily as a guardian. From what little I've seen (her and the shop lady, they're the only ones I've seen) it's practically a requirement.

She stands just as tall as the young male beside her, and there's a familiarity between them that borders on comfortable and uncertain.

"I've got two years experience being a mute," I say quietly as I crawl into the van. "I think I'll be falling back on that."

"It might not hurt," I sigh, smiling and nodding back toward the strangers as they head our way. "Maybe get a feel for the kid? See if he's a threat, or if maybe we can use him."

"He's a kid." I frown roughly as I glance back at Lavellan, my bags tucked into the corner behind the driver seat where I begin to settle in. "Hell, she looks like she's fresh out of whatever warehouse they make you lot in." I grumble, my voice dropping as I head her voice carrying towards us.

*Novi*

"I can't thank you enough for this," I smile as I approach the van, keeping near Aodh at my side. "I actually realized I never properly introduced myself, my name is Zenovia Moss, this is Aodhagan."

"Ansiel Blackburn," I respond, offering a polite smile as I bow my head respectfully. "And this is Oma," I add as I gesture back toward Ljuba.

"And Oma has magic?" Aodhagen asks hesitantly, his voice barely above a whisper as he sticks close to Zenovia and stares at Ljuba.

"She does," I respond, my gaze shifting over him. There's something off about him that I can't quite put my finger on. "Shall we?" I ask, gesturing toward the van.

"Hmm," I nod as I step up to the van, smiling as I spot Oma tucked behind the driver's seat with her bag sandwiched behind her against the back wall of the van.

"You don't have to sit in the back," I offer, setting my bags inside as I turn to let Aodhagan crawl in. "I didn't intend to steal your seat."

"I like the back," Oma responds stiffly, glancing past me to Ansiel before offering me a lopsided smile. "But, thank you."

I can see Aodhagen's eyes go wide for a moment as he glances between Ljuba and Zenovia nervously, but any argument he may have had is quickly tamped down as he swallows and pretends to busy himself looking for something in his bag. He hardly looks at Zenovia as he smiles weakly and climbs into the back as she seems to insist on seeing him settle in.

My stomach sinks at the silent display of codependency as I make my way around to the driver side. Separating these two isn't going to be as easy as I had hoped.

I wait until Aodh seems to settle into the rear of the van, trying not to let my unease show as I tug the door shut before crawling into the front passenger seat.

"Ansiel, was it?" I ask as I get situated in the front seat, glancing out the window at the various stains marring the pavement of the sidewalk absently. "How long have you been out?"

"A few years, actually," I respond as I glance in the rearview mirror at Ljuba and Aodhagen. "Oma has given me quite the run around trying to track her down."

"Oh?" I remark softly, glancing toward the woman over my shoulder before looking to Ansiel. "Years?" I add with a slight scoff, shaking my head in disbelief. "It's only been about seven months since I was here last, I couldn't imagine being gone for years."

"It feels like a completely different place since the last time I was here," I admit with a nod, taking care to put little grains of truth into everything I say so she can't quite put a finger on what is and isn't true.

"It changes constantly, doesn't it..." I respond, still looking out the window as we pull out into the road. "For the better, I hope."

I can't stop the grunt of derision that scoffs out of me, my gaze flickering over to her warily. "Sorry," I mumble before fixing my gaze on the road. "I'm not an optimist."

Looking at him out of the corner of my eye, I only nod before turning my attention back to the road. I can't place it, but something is peculiar about him and it sits heavily in my chest. There's not a sound coming from the two in the back, and it doesn't take long for the silence to take on an intimidating aura.

"Oma?" Aodhagen says quietly after several long minutes of silence.

"Yes..?" I respond quietly, at first neglecting to look up from the length of fabric I'd been absently knotting before I pick my head up to look at him. I can't help the small sting of guilt as his eyes widen at the way my head turns a little extra so I can see him.

"How'd you get all those scars?" I ask a little hesitantly, not really certain if my question is inappropriate or not.

Grinning softly, I return to the task of untying and retyping various knots.

"I had a really mean cat."

View user profile http://sordidnations.forumotion.com
"No, you didn't," I chide, narrowing my eyes at her skeptically. "Really..??"

View user profile
"No, I didn't." I respond with a laugh, shaking my head.

View user profile http://sordidnations.forumotion.com
"Was it a dog?" I ask solemnly. "I have a scar on my leg from one of those."

View user profile
"It wasn't a dog, either." I answer him, the fabric getting tucked into my hand as I sit back to look at him curiously.

View user profile http://sordidnations.forumotion.com
I hesitate, glancing toward the front of the van as subtly as possible before looking down at my bag.

"It wasn't the Chantry, was it?" I ask quietly.

I frown at him as I shake my head.

"I was running from people long before Ansiel." I respond quietly.
