Once the man's settled in, I move to sit upright. Never taking my eyes from him, or his gun, I reach to scratch at the blood that's dried across my cheek bone.

"They sell medicine all over this territory," I say, sucking on my thumb before rubbing at the blood, "Why not just go to the nearest hub, get what you need, and leave? Why the Capital?"

"The ingredients I need for mine are not so common," I respond a little evasively. "And I need a considerable supply of it to make it last long enough to be worth the risk in coming here. As does my friend."

"Your friend can get Moppy all over the twelve realms." I respond simply.

"My friend isn't the only one with needs," I respond sharply.

"Her needs don't seem to involve the Capital." I snap.

"Mine do," I respond flatly. "And she's with me."

"You sure are putting her in a lot of danger," I remark coolly, catching his gaze as I look at him thoughtfully.

"You promise to let Aodh and I go once in the Capital - Aodhagan unharmed - and I won't report this until you've had time to get out of the bigger cities."

"I promise Aodhagen will remain unharmed," I say as I raise an eyebrow at her. "But we'll cross that other bridge when we come to it. In the meantime, I think you best talk to your charge and keep him calm. If we make it to the next town and he tries to run again, I can't promise my word will be of much value anymore.v

"You don't worry about him." I say thickly, a bit of anger welling in my chest at the implication as I scoot closer to him.

I'm startled from my anger as I hear the passenger door open, the woman crawling back up into the van, a bagful of looted goods dropped into the floor between the front seats as she looks back at us.

"Do they need to use the bathroom?" She asks.

"Yes," I respond before asking the woman. With a few muttered words, Aodhagen begins to stir as I get to my feet to open the side door.

"The fronts unlocked now." The woman responds, twisting to move around in her seat so she can face the man standing outside. I turn to tend to Aodhagan as he moves groggily, my voice low as I lean over and catch his hand.

"Aodh, it's going to be okay," I say softly, "Just stick with me, and stay calm."

It takes me a moment to remember what happened before the adrenaline kicks in when I look around to see the silver-haired man watching impatiently at the door. My whole body tenses as the magic wells up in my gut, but nothing comes of it as I feel Zenovia's hand tightening on my wrist. Looking at her with wide eyes, it takes me a second to register that she's talking, and another moment to understand what she's saying.

Finally, I nod shakily and let her pull me with her to the door of the van. My knees are shaky as I get my feet under me, but I'm quick to hold onto Zenovia's arm. Having her near helps me keep my balance, but I know my motivation for squeezing so tightly to her is rooted in fear. Fear of the situation, and fear of Zenovia's condition after I'd seen her take the butt of the silver haired man's gun.

"Where are we??" I ask breathlessly once we're a little further from the van. "Where can we run??"

"We're not." I respond quietly, his grip on my arm bordering on painful as we head towards the abandoned rest stop. "We're going to stay with these two until we get to the Capital, like we'd planned.

"Our host and I had a misunderstanding earlier, one we've resolved. You don't have to worry."

"He used magic back there," I frown as I look at her uncertainly. "I thought guardians didn't use magic like that."

"Guardians come in all sorts." I respond evenly, offering him a weak smile as I nod.

I frown at the way Lavellan trails behind them, the boy's clearly terrified demeanor leaving a sick feeling in my gut as I slide back out of the van to catch up to Lavellan.

"There's a door just past the bathrooms that leads out the back." I point out quietly as I catch his stride, glancing up at him. "Doesn't shut proper, it's hot I got in."

I glance at Ljuba out of the corner of my eye before nodding at the bit of intel. "I'll cover that door, you keep an eye on this one," I say before breaking off to stroll toward the back of the building where I can watch the door and empty my own bladder.

"You're not a very good liar," I point out as I watch Zenovia skeptically. I know she's trying to keep me calm, and I know my tense posture isn't doing me any favors when it.comes to putting her at ease. Sighing, I loosen my grip on her and try to relax.

I smile slightly as I nod, guiding Aodh back towards the bathrooms as I sigh.

"Nothing's going to happen to you, that is a promise." I say earnestly as I pull from his side just outside the bathroom doors. "Just because someone is desperate doesn't mean they're bad, and I have faith that these two won't hurt us. The Gods are watching over us, Aodh, this is just a trial for us to grow from."

"I hope you're right," I sigh. "The girl seemed nice enough... But I don't know about that other guardian or whatever he is."

"Don't worry about him. We'll just keep our heads down, and it'll be a quiet trip." I smile, reaching up to straighten a tangled curl before sighing. "Now go use the bathroom, who know when we'll stop again."

"Yeah, okay," I sigh as she disappears into the bathroom. Hesitating, I look around the empty, leaf littered hall. Glancing back at the women's bathroom, I start creeping dowm the hall looking for where the leaves have gotten in. Finding an outside door propped slightly ajar, my heart skips a little bit as I step forward to push it open.

A moment of panic hits me when I nearly run into the tall man from the van on the other side of the door. He raises an eyebrow at me, pointedly doing up his zipper after having relieved himself on the ground by the door. I make a face and clear my throat nervously.

"Oh, sorry... wrong door," I stammer before quickly withdrawing into the building. Grumbling, I make my way back down the hall toward the other bathroom.

I've distracted myself going through whatever generic tonics are left on the shelves when I hear the shuffling of feet and glance up to see the guardian and her ward heading back my way, Lavellan following tensely behind them.

"Guardian," I call, palming one of the antibiotic salves and tossing it towards her as she looks towards me, startled. She catches it in both hands, wide eyed as she stares at me. "For your head, the cut."

"Oh," She responds, looking down at it in a touch of confusion before nodding. "Thank you?"

"Hmm," I shrug, heading for the door.
