“No, but almost nastier than this one in regards to hybrids,” I frown slightly, taking another bite of cake. The awkward rhythm of his heartbeat is still a little distracting as I take a drink of coffee, vaguely regretting the break in my routine after the stressful evening in the shop.

“What about the witch’s aging?” I ask, steering the conversation away from the sour topic of our home city. “They’re similar to humans, aren’t they?”

"Mmhmm," I nod around a mouthful of cake. "Though, it depends on the witch. My father was the High Priest, and a powerful man. That allowed him to live for nearly two-hundred years before the curse of old age finally claimed him. But for most witches, they're lucky to reach their eighties out there in the wilds. An average man wouldn't last half as long, I reckon."

“I always found it intriguing,” I remark, shoving the saucer with the rest of my cake away as I tuck the fork under it. “The tribes that live out there, I mean. I’ve never known a life without plumbing,” I laugh.

"I have plumbing," I laugh before shaking my head. "But then, I'm the son of a High Priest, and a combination Coven Embarrassment-Slash-Coven Treasure. And, as such, I am a very poor example of what a Wilding actually is. If I were anyone else in the coven, I'd have been killed for coming here. But here I am - again - because I'd rather not lose a leg to the winter or to walking a thousand miles just to honor tradition."

“Tradition is overrated,” I smirk.

"Life is too short to bother with tradition," I agree, holding up my coffee. "Regardless of how long you live."

“I’d drink to that,” I laugh, lamely raising my coffee before taking a drink. “Though, is it bad taste to toast with coffee?”

"I have a thing for that," I say as I set my cup back down to pull out the flask and add a splash to my cup. "There," I smile as I raise it again. "Now it's only partly in bad taste."

Grinning, I hold my cup towards him, inviting him to spike my own coffee and smiling graciously as he obliges. Taking a sip, my nose pinches at the pungent addition, a breath catching in my throat as I chuckle.

“You weren’t kidding,” I say, swallowing thickly, “that is rough.”

"Like a strong gin had sex with a tree," I laugh, wrinkling my nose and taking another sip. "It grows on you, though. Though, it's a little more suited for tea than coffee."

“I can’t lie,” I start before taking another tentative sip, shaking my head as I set my cup down, “A little disappointed I put it in my coffee, now.”

Laughing, I sit back and drag my bag over from the window, digging through it to pay for the coffee and cake. “I can definitely see how enough of it would warm you up, though.”

"Drink enough, and you won't care that you're cold anyway," I laugh as I wave at her to put her money away as I pull my own out. "My treat, if I may."

I look up at him a bit apprehensively, my hand still in my bag as I grin.

“If you wish,” I nod, setting my bag at my side, continuing with a laugh, “I suppose it’s fair, since I let you ruin my coffee.”

"I'll have to treat you to a Wildling meal sometime," I laugh as I wrinkle my nose at my own coffee a bit sadly. "In the meantime, though, perhaps we should get you home, hm?"

“Mmm,” I hum in agreeance, sliding from my seat as I pull my coat back on and adjust my hood.

“I can walk it from here, really.” I say as we get our things sorted.

"If that's what you would prefer," I nod as I leave a few extra coins on the table as a tip. "When would you like me by the shop?"

“Mornings are usually uneventful, but I open for ten. I get there ‘round nine.” I explain, buttoning my coat before adjusting my bag on my shoulder.

“If you have things to tend to, any time before, maybe... four?” I shrug, “And, if you have it, wear something black.”

"I'll see you then," I smile as I pull my coat on and follow her toward the door where we bid each other our good evenings.
